Thanksgiving Prep

Tomorrow I will attempt to make my first Thanksgiving dinner. I say attempt because I’m not what you would call a cook. As a matter of fact, I rarely make a meal. I normally survive on string cheese, cereal, toast, and if I’m really feeling ambitious, the occasional turkey burger. I know, gourmet, right?

My friend Tacia is visiting (yeah Tacia!) and we decided that instead of going out for Thanksgiving dinner, we would try to make it ourselves. How much fun will that be!?!?

I’m starting to rethink this. It hit me when I went to the grocery store Monday night. First, the grocery store was insanely busy. Arm a bunch of holiday-crazed food shoppers with shopping carts and you’ve got a very dangerous weapon. I was scared.

Second, I went to the grocery store with a list longer than any I have ever had before, and on it were items I’ve never purchased in my life. For one, I bought a whole bag of potatoes. I WHOLE bag! I’ve never done that before. I don’t know how many potatoes it takes to make mash potatoes for two, but I’m guessing that a whole bag is more than I will need. If anyone needs some potatoes, hit me up.

But what’s really on my mind is making this turkey. Since I’ve never bought a bag of potatoes before, you can be sure that I’ve never bought a turkey, and definitely never made one. Everyone keeps telling me that making a turkey is so easy. Right, I’m sure.

For now, the turkey is defrosting in my refrigerator just waiting for me to screw it up tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes. You can be sure to find a Thanksgiving review here on Friday. Wish me luck!

  1. Oh, you'll do just fine and have a great story to tell. Take some of the pressure off, open a bottle (or three) and take your time. Happy Thanksgiving.
